Dive into a world of dangerous covert missions in Call of Duty: Black Ops II Hardened Edition for the Microsoft Xbox 360. The single-player story weaves between the exploits of original Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason in the 1980s and those of his son, David Mason, in the year 2025. A secondary campaign, which focuses on defeating zombies, was included as an off-line multiplayer feature. All the standard multiplayer games that players have come to expect from the Call of Duty franchise are also present. Black Ops II is the first Call of Duty game to feature futuristic combat and technology. Like other Call of Duty titles, Black Ops II has cross-console availability. The exclusive Hardened Edition offers cross-console compatibility and is available for PlayStation 3 users as well as Xbox 360, Windows PC users, and Wii U. During the first part of the campaign, players return as Alex Mason, the protagonist, for the original Black Ops game. Mason comes out of retirement to rescue Frank Woods, an operative who went missing in Angola. During the mission, they become aware of the involvement of Raul Menendez, an arms dealer who is notorious for his involvement in South American and South African disputes. In the second half of the campaign, the player takes on the role of Mason’s son David, who goes under the moniker Section. Taking place in 2025, Menendez has reemerged on the political landscape as a populist leader and hacker who threatens to plunge the United States into a Cold War with China. The rest of the campaign focuses on Section’s pursuit and eventual apprehension of Menendez. Black Ops II represented a major step forward for the Call of Duty franchise. For the first time, the ending of the game depends on various choices the player makes over the course of the game. Everything depends on whether certain key characters are saved or whether Menendez is killed or taken into custody.The multiplayer modes have received a variety of upgrades and alterations, which were designed to promote teamwork and to make the action more accessible to newcomers. A new multi-team option expands the traditional squad-versus-squad mechanics to include three or more teams. The Create-A-Class feature now allows players to create custom characters with a Pick 10 system, which allows them ultimate weapon and perk customization.Like several previous Call of Duty games from Activision, Black Ops II includes a Zombie mode. This time, the zombies are the subject of a separate and independent campaign that is set in an alternate timeline where humanity has been destroyed and zombies ravage the earth. There are three separate game modes for the zombie campaign. The Hardened Edition features exclusive bonus in-game content for the Zombie mode. The modes revisit Nuketown, the popular close-quarter multiplayer map from the previous Black Ops title. Nuketown has been given a history in this version, and it serves as a battleground for fending off hordes of zombies. This title is rated M for Mature.
