Barring a future failure, an excellent ps4 controller replacement battery option
Bought two of these to replace the batteries on my controllers for my PS4 launch system. The battery life sucked when new, but after years of use they became laughable at best. A couple hours was the most they could last, and that's a very liberal estimate.
I was prepared from some reviews I read on similar products to do some dremmel work to make an aftermarket battery fit. These really require no such work. I did end up cutting out the little plastic tab that holds the wires down on the oem battery with some flush cutters, but TBH I'm fairly certain I could of put it back together worth it even doing that. Two halfs of the controller went back together easily, no forcing or bulging.
Batteries indicated a full charge, but nevertheless I plugged them in to charge anyways. Appear to be taking a charge, no errors, battery life gauge on screen appears to work properly. Been using for two hours now and hasn't even lost one bar yet.
Like I said in the title, unless these things completely **** the bed on me unexpectedly, I'm 110% satisfied with this purchase. Wondering why I waited so long to do this 5 minute battery swap.
Oh, and also an FYI. The screws on my controllers were a little rough to get loosened. Having the proper size screwdriver is probably a must to not muck up your screws. I used a Phillips #0-2, the smallest in my micro screwdriver set and it worked well.
Green is excellent and bright as green usually is, red also as expected. Purple left a lot to be desired. I know that with blue and purple they tend to appear dimmer and square or oval at a distance, but this one was bad. Was focused super close as if for burning (and in fact would), but just a few feet away the "spot" was large, blurry, and of course squared. Adjusting the focusing cap had no effect. After taking it apart and several attempts at moving the lense manually and carefully replacing the actual focusing cap so that it wouldn't turn the lense, I got it acceptable but still not good. The actual lens runs out of threads, I could not get it close enough to the emitter to get a good focus at any distance.
Overall they're still a good value for all three, but it seems quality control (maybe in general, maybe just on the purple) leaves some to be desired.
