East Kent Gazetteer in the Great War
Published by the East Kent branch of the Western Front Association, this volume lists all the military and VAD medical units, town by town, village by village, virtually house by house - full of detail, lots of illustrations and photographs and supported by anecdotes and more detailed historical vignettes. Really thorough research, a useful addition to the bookshelf of anyone with an interest on the First World War and how it affected East Kent.

An increasingly rare item, an excellent history of an important hos
This is an excellent history of an important hospital, the first pupose built hospital to address TB, especially bone and joint TB. In an age before antibiotics, fresh air and sea bathing were seen as viable treatments, and the hospital develped to become a major centre for orthopaedics.
Closed in 1996, the buildings still play a major part in Margate's townscape, and this history traces their role from early beginnings right through to the late 20th century. Well illustrated with old prints, diagrams, pictures of patients throughout its history and images of the famous orthopedic doll collection, this hardback book is an essential part of any hospital or Kent history collection.
The author was a leading orthopaedic surgeon, who worked at the hospital, and has a huge knowledge of the history and its significance for the treatment of patients right up to the modern day.
(I'm a librarian at Kent and Canterbury Hospital with some responsibility for the historical collectons of the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust, so I'm a little biased, but this is one of the best hospital histories available, and it's only rarely available at that).
