VariND - SLR Magic 77mm on Zeiss 24-70 with Sony alpha 99 II.
Not the cheapest one, but for me works best /use it for DSLR filming and have 3 others to compare /. Mechanicaly, I must say really, really very good one - love the stops and small leaver especially useful for video. I wish there would by an option to change the position of the leaver /not the problem with the SLR Magic mkII/ . On the mentioned lens - sony zeiss 24-70 mkII no vignetting because the filter goes wider. The picture goes just a bit green-isch, but easy fix in post or to compensate with camera WB. Sharpness is not affected which is usually the problem with the others, even with more expensive ones. On the " ISO good cameras - even average ones" there is no need to take it off and put back on as often as I used to do in the past - At the weddings I often change the light positions - indoor - outdoor and so on. This filter in its MIN position can stay indoor almost all the time without disturbing the picture. On the other hand during the very sunny moments sometimes I need to go up with the camera settings, but under the normal condition this variND blocks all the unwanted light. I lock the camera at 1/45-1/125 f2,8- f3,5 and adjust the light only with the filter. Because you have the leaver you can do it quite easy while rolling. I advise to put on the front of the filter a step up ring, in my case 86-95 to bring the glass surface more inward for better protection /need new 95 lens cover/ and also you get better grip while rotating - no occasional finger in the picture. You can even make little grooves to the ring. With all this small gimmicks along with its brilliant optic, it the best vari ND I have used. Thanks. Daniel Petrasko.
