Borrowing elements from a number of the genre's finest titles, Midway and Ninai Games have created Rampage Puzzle Attack -- a title which combines the familiar Rampage license with an intriguing puzzle concept. A horizontal line made up of six differently colored blocks appears from the top of the screen. The player is then required to swap a maximum of two blocks at a time until you have the desired combination, upon which you press down to drop the two blocks into the bin.
Blocks of like color will connect with each other if they touch horizontally or vertically. Segments of a particular color can then be removed by dropping a Detoblock on top of them. Combos can be created via careful arrangement of both "normal" blocks as well as Detoblocks. If the bin fills all the way to the top, the game is over. During the game, the familiar Rampage monsters, including the likes of Lizzie, Boris, and Ruby climb the side of the game bin and growl when the player achieves certain goals.
Clear, Puzzle, Rescue, and Marathon modes make up the single-player experience. The Rescue mode places one of eight monsters into a cage with blocks stacked on top of it. The player's task is to remove the blocks trapping the beast in its cage, with the ultimate goal of freeing the trapped monster. Three multiplayer modes -- Attack, Score, and Rescue -- complement the existing single-player modes. Two players can participate in the action with the use of only a single cartridge and the Game Boy Advance Link Cable. A password save feature keeps track of the levels completed in the different game modes, of which there are over 200.
