The Cisco Catalyst 2960S series (WS-C2960S-48TD-L) of Gigabit Ethernet switches are fixed-configuration access switches designed to access applications in branch offices for midmarket businesses as well as campuses. The Catalyst 2960-S provides enterprise-class Layer 2 switching. Networks that are looking for lower ownership costs benefit from this series of switches. The Cisco Catalyst 2960-S is easy to use and offers highly secure conditions for business operations and improved sustainability, giving you a borderless network experience across routers and accessories from one power supply base. Key features of the series include Flexstack, Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+), and Cisco Catalyst SmartOperations. Cisco Flexstack modules allow stacking up to four switches. Add any Cisco Catalyst 2960-S switches with LAN Base software, including the WS-C2960S-48FPD-L, WS-C2960S-48TD-L, and WS-C2960S-48TS-L switches. With Cisco Flexstack modules and Cisco IOS Software, all switches combine to one stack and act as a single switch unit. This unified configuration also gives you a single IP address for switch management. This is where the lower cost and simplified management are realized. Note that you also have the ability to mix 2960-S switches with 2960-SF switches in this type of stacking configuration, giving you a combination of Gigabit and Fast Ethernet ports in one switch. The series offers 1G Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) or 1G/10G SFP+ slots. The WS-C2960S-48FPD-L switch delivers 740W of PoE power and has two SFP+ interfaces. Uplink interface data for WS-C2960S-48TD-L is 2 SFP+ and WS-C2960S-48TS-L is 4 SFP. Both IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) and IEEE 802.3at PoE+ modules are supported by the Catalyst 2960-S series. With IEEE PoE, there is no need for wall power supply to PoE-enabled devices incorporated into your system, again lowering costs. One example of total PoE/PoE+ power available with specific switches in this series is 740W for C2960S-48FPD-L, giving a maximum of 48 PoE ports. Cisco Catalyst SmartOperations simplifies LAN planning, troubleshooting, monitoring, and deployment. This saves you time and effort in operating the network and again lowers the total cost of network administration. It also provides automated Cisco IOS Software image installation and configuration when you connect new switches to the network. Additionally, Cisco Catalyst SmartOperations further reduces your workload by automatically configuring switch ports as devices connect to each switch. Both the Cisco Catalyst WS-C2960S-48TD-L and WS-C2960S-48TS-L switches in this type of Gigabit Ethernet Catalyst series have 48 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports for efficient networking. The WS-C2960S-48TD-L switch offers two 10-Gigabit Ethernet or two 1-Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ uplink ports, while the WS-C2960S-48TS-L offers two 1-Gigabit Ethernet SFP uplink ports. This Cisco Catalyst series includes a number of compatible switch configurations including Cisco Catalyst 2960S-48TS-L, which has a predicted reliability of 328,058 hours MTBF (mean time before failure). The Cisco Catalyst WS-C2960S-48TD-L configuration compares at 311,291 hours MTBF. Most of the Catalyst 2960-S series switches, including WS-C2960S-48TD-L, are LAN Base whereas just two (WS-C2960S-48TS-S and WS-C2960S-24TS-S) are LAN Lite. Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet are accomplished through 24 to 48 ports. Cisco Systems Catalyst 2960-S series provides security for networking by enforcing basic policies that limit access to the network. Therefore, security is heightened while threats are reduced. Remote monitoring (RMON) is also a feature of Cisco’s Catalyst 2960-S series. Up to 250 LAN users have access to common services across the series of switches, routers, access points, and accessories from one base of modules.
