The Western Digital Caviar Black (WD5001AALS) internal hard drive has a spindle speed of 7,200RPM, as well as an external data transfer rate of 300 Mbps. This, combined with an option of 32MB or 64MB cache, ensures that you can transfer and open your saved content easily and quickly. The large cache provides buffer room that keeps your computer processing smoothly, and the high data read and transfer speeds make opening or moving files a snap. The equipped dual processor provides additional speed and prevents delays in file transferring when you store them. The Serial ATA (SATA) II 3 Gb/s interface provides plug-and-play connectivity so that the Western Digital Caviar Black (WD5001AALS) can be easily installed in a range of computers. The HDD is compatible with several motherboards and CPUs and comes equipped with Native Command Queuing that automatically optimizes when commands are read and executed. Flexible cables keep installation simple, whether you’re building a new computer or upgrading your existing hardware, and the 3.5" form factor lets this hard drive fit within most cases. At 1.6 lbs in weight, it has a satisfying heft but is easily light enough to transport or move around during installation. Other accessories that come with the Western Digital Caviar Black (WD5001AALS) include Data Lifeguard, NoTouch ramp load technology, StableTrac, and Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR). The Data Lifeguard protection includes shock guards and embedded real-time error detection, which finds and repairs errors within the HDD as they occur. As the hard drive wears out, the protection features isolate and repair problems that they find, preserving the life of the HDD for as long as possible and maintaining the performance quality. The NoTouch ramp load technology prevents the recording head from coming into contact with the disk media, decreasing the amount of wear to both. It also provides additional drive protection when the HDD is in transit or being installed. Other accessories help stabilize the hard drive and protect against the vibrations that occur when the computer is in operation, offering more security against shock and general wear.
