À propos de ce produit
Product Information
Peace at last, after Lloyd George declared it had been the war to end all wars , would surely bring relief and a renewed sense of optimism? But this assumption turned out to be deeply misplaced as people began to realise that the men they loved were never coming home. The Great Silence is the story of the pause between 1918 and 1920. A two-minute silence to celebrate those who did was underpinned by a more enduring silence born out of national grief. Those who had danced through settled Edwardian times, now faced a changed world. Some struggled to come to terms with the last four years, while others were anxious to move towards a new future. Change came to women, who were given the vote only five years after Emily Davidson had thrown herself on the ground at Ascot race course, to the poor, determined to tolerate their condition no longer, and to those permanently scarred, mentally and physically, by the conflict. The British Monarchy feared for its survival as monarchies around Europe collapsed and Eric Horne, one time butler to the gentry, found himself working in a way he considered unseemly for a servant of his calibre. Whether it was embraced or rejected, change had arrived as the impact of a tragic war was gradually absorbed. With her trademark focus on daily life, Juliet Nicolson evokes what England was like during this fascinating hinge in history.

I changed my mind, and cancelled this item very soon after the order was placed. The Seller was able to respond to this request promptly and my money was reimbursed without fuss. I have purchased from Awesome a number of times, and (as reflected in the customer ratings) find customer service very good, books ordered to date are accurate to description - i.e. very good to nearly new condition. With their competitive prices I will continue to buy from this seller in the future.

Firstly, I believe in HONEST reviews. Unfortunately the book had loads of underlining in it, but I was refunded straight away, I have bought from this company plenty of times, buying 100's of books and I've never had any problems before, mistakes happen and it was rectified immediately, therefore I will still continue to buy from them and also HIGHLY recommend this company, communication was quick and professional and it was well packaged with fast delivery. Thank you.

This seller gave excellent communication & a full refund when the book I ordered was found to be damaged at the warehouse. They sent a very apologetic email explaining the issue & refunded me straight away. I have used this seller before & they have always been reliable & prompt with delivery. The items have also been in even better condition than described for an amazingly reasonable price. This was not their fault, so I would definitely buy from this seller again & recommend them to others.
