One of the more obscure games starring the affable Italian plumber, Mario's Picross is a unique puzzler in which the objective is to reveal a secret picture (such as a shoe or a mushroom) by chiseling blocks in a grid. Numbers situated outside the grid identify how many blocks to chisel in a particular row or column, but players must use logic to decipher exactly which blocks to chisel. Chiseling where you shouldn't elapses precious minutes off the clock. Mario's face is situated in the upper left section of the screen, and the numbers and blocks give the game a clean, though simplistic look. The music is repetitive, but gameplay, which is bolstered by well over 100 puzzles, is addictive, challenging and very enjoyable.
