Flag to Flag is a fully licensed CART racing game. There are 27 real-life drivers included from 18 actual teams. The 19 circuits are also true-to-life; they include: Miami, Motegi, Long Beach, Nazareth, Rio de Janeiro, Gateway International, Milwaukee Mile, Detroit, Portland, Cleveland, Toronto, Michigan, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Vancouver, Laguna Seca, Houston, Gold Coast, and Fontana.
Arcade and Championship are the two main modes of play. In Arcade mode players can race against the computer or against a friend. Players then select the driver to play as, automatic or manual transmission, and the course to race on. After races conclude, players can enter their initials if they set a record and watch, as well as save, a replay of the last race.
Championship mode takes place over the 19 circuits mentioned above. In this mode, players can adjust the difficulty setting, select their driver, practice before qualifying, turn on weather, set the race length, turn car damage on, choose if they want corner signs to warn of upcoming turns, enable full course caution, and customize their car. Car settings that can be altered include: tire compound, aerodynamics, amount of fuel to carry, suspension, gear ratio, and transmission.
Flag to Flag also features five different camera angles so that players can race in one of two first-person views or one of three third-person views. While racing, on screen are a variety of items: current number of laps raced, total laps remaining, total time, best lap, time record, course record, fastest lap, course map, current ranking, tachometer, speedometer, and current gear.
