Spike Chunsoft's quirky series dealing with imprisonment, murder, and psychotic robot bears switches from visual novel to full-on action in Ultra Despair Girls. Set after events of Trigger Happy Havoc, and starring the younger sister of its protagonist, Danganronpa Another Episode begins with Komaru Naegi being freed from an apartment in Towa City, where she has been imprisoned for more than a year. Once outside, she finds a city in chaos thanks to group of children known as the Warriors of Hope, who are using Monokuma bear robots to exterminate all adults.
Komaru wields a megaphone called a Hacking Gun that can be used to shoot eight different kinds of Truth Bullets at Monokumas. Some bullets simply do various kinds of damage, while others can cause Monokumas to dance instead of attack, give players brief control of the robots, or reveal things in the environment that can't normally be seen. Komaru is also joined by series veteran Toko Fukawa, whose stun gun can be charged to transform her into the maniacal alter ego Genocide Jack, who uses scissor blades to dispatch foes with swift melee attacks. Gamers earn monocoins for defeating foes, and the currency can be used to buy weapon and ability upgrades.
