With the acquisition of the Ducati license, Acclaim have produced Ducati World Racing Challenge -- a motorcycle racing title fully devoted to the famous Italian manufacturer. The Quick Race selection provides an assortment of modes, such as Single Race, Two-Player, and Time Attack. Players choose a difficulty level, as well as a bike from a wide selection of the company's vintage and modern motorcycles. The core mode, however, is the Ducati Life campaign. Before embarking on a life-long journey encompassing all things Ducati, players must use a small sum of starting money to purchase a basic bike. Players are then free to participate in a variety of disciplines. Here, players can compete in a series of races, with the primary objective of earning as much money as possible, or they can challenge a single CPU opponent to a race, with the prize being the opponent's bike. During actual competition, first-person and third-person camera angles are available.
Players will also need to engage in a number of license tests, in order to acquire the certification necessary to compete in the more advanced races and competitions. The entrance requirements for specific events also include the classification of the bike. Races are tailored to bikes of a specific era, divided into vintage and modern events. If in need of a new motorcycle, players can purchase one brand new or second-hand from a dealer, a private seller, or a bike magazine. However, second-hand vehicles suffer from slightly degraded performance when compared to their brand new counterparts. Of course, if one of the motorcycles in the stable is in need of a tune-up, a parts store is on hand that allows players to purchase upgraded versions of everything from tires to engines to exhausts and more. Slightly more frivolous purchases, such as helmets and leathers, can also be acquired.
More adventurous players can also partake in a two-player challenge in which each player's bike is put on the line. The winner assumes ownership of the losing player's bike. In keeping with the 'life' theme of the Ducati Life mode, the in-game clock is advanced when players compete in events. Over the passage of time, new events will be introduced for the player to participate in, while older ones will expire. Lastly, the Ducati Museum provides an in-depth history of the company and its motorcycles.
