When it was launched in 1998 the TRI-ELMAR-M 1: 4/28-35-50 mm ASPH. was another milestone in the history of M photography. For the first time Leica engineers had succeeded in uniting the most common focal lengths of the LEICA M system in a lens while retaining the high optical performance typical of Leica. With the versatile LEICA TRI-ELMAR-M, Leica designers have succeeded in combining the M-photographer's three most popular focal lengths, 28, 35 and 50 mm, into a single, extremely compact lens. Now the completely redesigned lens is more reliable and easier to use.The mechanism of the new TRI-ELMAR-M has been completely redesigned and is now even more reliable and simpler to use: for example, a shaped handle on the distance setting ring makes focusing easier and a scale on the lens displays the depth of field for all three focal lengths. The filter diameter has been reduced to E 49 for a better viewfinder image. The optimized zoom ring engages audibly and tangibly at every focal length now, thus preventing accidental readjustment of the focal length. A metal lens hood is available as an accessory that does not obstruct the viewfinder image. For the first time it is possible to use a polarizer on the TRI-ELMAR-M. By using an adapter an E 67 circular polarizer can be used that is set directly through the viewfinder. A matching UVA "slim filter" that prevents vignetting at 28 mm is available for the E 49 filter thread. The front lens cap (A53) that is also new reliably protects the lens. This means that the 340 g compact TRI-ELMAR-M in the high-quality Nappa leather case is ideally suited to travel, leisure and photojournalism.
