Grischa Asagaroff directed this exhilarating updating of Rossini's BARBER OF SEVILLE, changing the setting to Twentieth Century Spain. Asagaroff also placed more emphasis on the characters' psychological situations rather than on the routine slapstick more familiar to audiences. The talent on stage is also stunning, including Manuel Lanza as Figaro, Reinaldo Macias as the count, and Nello Santi handling the baton chores.
