When E.L. James was writing her Twilight-slash-fic-turned-BSDM potboiler Fifty Shades of Grey, she apparently fueled her writing sessions by listening to tons of classical music. Once the book turned into a runaway hit, it only made sense to create a companion album, and that's what 2012's Fifty Shades of Grey: The Classical Album is: pieces that functioned as a soundtrack for James' writing, along with some compositions that crept their way into the text. Unsurprisingly, this makes it an album that's targeted not at the classical connoisseurs but rather fans of Fifty Shades of Grey looking for a dose of sophisticated danger. For that subset of listeners, this collection will serve their needs quite well. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
