Beagles, part of the "All About Dogs" series from Capstone Press's Edge Books imprint, is designed to aid children in the process of selecting and caring for a new dog, as well as provide basic historical information about the breed. Beginning with the chapter entitled "A Fun Friend" the book describes, through photos and scattered colorful paragraphs with brown and yellow backgrounds, what a Beagle looks like, how it acts, and details the ways it makes an active family pet. Three chapters follow including "Beagle History," "Friendly and Smart," and "Caring for a Beagle." The "A Fun Friend" chapter includes an "Edge Fact" that states "One of the most famous beagles of all time is Snoopy, from the PEANUTS comic strip drawn by Charles Schulz." The "Beagle History" chapter details the breed's origins, dating back more than 2,000 years. The need for socialization, exercise, grooming, and training, are detailed in the "Caring for a Beagle" chapter. A nine-word glossary contains several words specifically related to the Beagle, including cataract. The "Read More Internet Site" chapters offer opportunities for further study and research and may require assistance. A representative from the National Beagle Club of America was a consultant on the book's production.
