With its clunky animation, crude sound effects, small characters, and simplistic controls, Street Combat is a poor cousin to (i.e. lame knockoff of) Street Fighter II. Unlike most fighters, which require sophisticated control pad maneuvering and multiple button taps, this game has special moves that are easy to pull off, making this a beginners-only affair. Adding to the juvenile nature of the title is a distinct lack of challenge. The single-player tournament mode pits one of two martial artists named Steven against six different opponents while the two-player mode lets gamers control any of the eight available fighters. The brawlers, each of which are boring to control, include (among others) Dozo the clown, who can throw balls and swing clubs, and Helmut the robot, who is equipped with a chain and bombs.
