Like its title, this PS2 brawler is based on the real-life PRIDE Fighting Championship, an "everything accepted" (Vale Tudo) toughman competition in which masters of different martial arts styles meet in battles to determine an overall winner. Fights involve kicks and hits as well as grappling. Virtual combatants wear away at each other's health and stamina until one is victorious. As in the actual events, however, certain submission moves are recognized and can quickly end a bout if a talented fighter takes advantage of an opportunity left by his opponent. Pride FC offers a broad selection of playable, real-life fighters. Carlos Newton, Guy Mezger, Gary Goodridge, and other veterans of Anchor's UFC games appear here, as well as PRIDE Fighting Championship contestants famous in Japan, such as Alexander Otsuka, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Nobuhiko Takada.
