In the tradition of action-oriented fantasy games like Gauntlet: Dark Legacy comes BlackStone: Magic & Steel, a Japanese-developed title featuring five playable character classes that battle across 26 levels filled with goblins, dragons, evil wizards, and more. Players can choose a warrior, archer, pirate, thief, or warlock, each possessing distinct abilities, before embarking on a quest to defeat Madul, Lord of the Underworld. In order to save the troubled world of Zedan, players must locate the fabled Black Stones hidden within each level.
Of course, a number of monsters will engage players in combat to prevent them from acquiring the enchanted stones. The action takes place from a fixed, overhead perspective, with a map in the corner of the screen. Each character can fight the enemy in melee combat, ranged combat, or by casting magical spells, and money earned from defeated monsters can be used to purchase power-up items. Dinosaur mounts are also available, to help cross the maze-like terrain, and up to four players can partake in the action simultaneously on the same screen.
