Nintendo's follow-up to Pokémon Pinball on Game Boy Color features two separate tables based on Pokémon: Ruby Version and Pokémon: Sapphire Version. As in the original, the goal is to catch Pokémon by hitting special targets or sending the ball across various chutes, ramps, or entrances using the flippers. The view is presented from a top-down perspective as the pinball, referred to as a "Monster Ball," scrolls up and down the screen to show table details up close.

Achieving certain point totals unlocks various bonus stages taking place within a Pokémon's natural habitat, and owners have the ability to evolve their captured critters by satisfying certain conditions on the playfield. Those using the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Player peripheral to view the game on a television screen will be able to take advantage of the console controller's rumble feature for vibration feedback while racking up points. Battery backup saves top scores for each table as well as captured Pokémon.
