This early title for the Game Boy Advance represents an innovative blend of several different gaming styles and gameplay factors. In the tradition of the early 1990s Rampart, Fortress features puzzle-style building sequences followed by an action-oriented battle mode. The building blocks of a potentially mighty castle fall from the sky, much like Tetris pieces that must be quickly positioned in the best place for a tight fit with few holes. When the battle begins, the player must deploy variously armed minions in strategic places to exploit the weaknesses of her opponent's castle while maintaining enough of a defensive force to protect her own.
