A handheld conversion of the Nintendo Entertainment System adventure, the Game Boy edition of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is an action-oriented RPG that follows the main storyline of the 1991 Kevin Costner film. Play is viewed from a top-down perspective, reminiscent of the early arcade hack-and-slasher Gauntlet. When two large groups meet in melee, the perspective zooms out to show more of the battle, and the view is from the side in duels and special fights. Characters earn more hit points as they gain experience, and new gear is equipped through a Paper Doll-styled interface. The plot leads Robin of Locksley and his band of merry men through forests and medieval castles, as they seek to finally bring the evil Sheriff of Nottingham to justice.
