The hunt continues in Cabela's Big Game Hunter III, a simulation of real world wilderness hunting that visits four locales throughout the United States. Stalk prey in the Georgia woodlands or the plains of Texas. Visit the Rocky Montains in Idaho or the lush, snowy forests of Alaska. Take advantage of more than 60 stands in the specified areas or track your targets by wandering through enormous tracts of 3D-rendered landscapes.<br><br>Species found in the game include three types of deer, bear, caribou, elk, moose and sheep. Both protected and non-game species are encountered with bobcats, coyotes and wolves among the creatures you'll find. Two types of gameplay allow you to enter the wild with little or no preparation (Quick Hunt) or as a complete experience in which you must fill out all the tags for each region and earn money to continue hunting. <br><br>The latter challenge is timed and provides the hunter with five days in which to complete full requirements within a region. Preparation includes buying and equipping gear, getting tags, sighting in your guns or bow and talking with the Expert Hunter or Lodge Host. The host offers to buy or sell gear, ranging in category from camping and clothing to optics, tools, weapons and ammunition. Gain cash by correctly answering safety test questions and get rest by staying at the lodge overnight.<br><br>The Expert Hunter covers a myriad of topics such as target ranges where you can adjust your weapon sightings and aim during 30-second timed intervals. Inventory management consists of ensuring proper equipment for each specific type of hunt, weapons and ammunition types, items and equipment used during hunts and at campsites. Hunting in Cabela's Big Game Hunter III can be done by tracking or sitting in a stand.<br><br>While hunting, once a target is acquired, a left-click of the mouse brings up a live video of the animal you've spotted. A clear line-of-sight is imperative to initiate the video, at which time your weapon reticle becomes visible. A successful hit results in a return to wilderness tracking mode so you can dress the animal; should you only wound it, you must track it down before being allowed to hunt any other animals.<br><br>The game includes more than 350 live action video clips, 21 guns, 4 bows and more than 65 hunting aids, 11 calls and 5 lures. Variable weather conditions indigenous to each region of hunting increase the realistic effects of being on location with rain, snow, sleet, ice, dry temperatures, humid air and more affecting the environment and tracking aspects. An in-game Game Warden assures your compliance with laws protecting certain species -- the first infraction results in a fine and warning, the second will end your hunt.<br><br>Victory conditions for the Quick Hunt consists of earning any one trophy while the Complete Hunt ends when you fill all of the tags for all four regions, or after the five-day time limit expires.
