Spyro the dragon is an adventure/puzzle single-player game, designed for PlayStation 1 and released in 1999, being developed by Insomniac Games. The story introduces Gnasty Gnorc (a half-orc, half-gnome being) who transforms all the dragons of the kingdom into crystal statues. Only Spyro, a young purple dragon, is spared due to its small size. His mission is to free all the crystal statues of dragons across a number of different levels. The player controls the dragon named Spyro who is accompanied by Sparx, a small dragonfly, which protects him.
