The development team behind 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and its sequel Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward return with another twisted tale of imprisonment and murder in DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. Players take control of Makoto Naegi, an unremarkable student who won a national lottery to attend the prestigious Hope's Peak Academy. But on his first day Makoto finds himself locked in the school with 14 classmates and taunted by a demented robot bear named Monokuma, who won't let anyone leave the premises unless they kill a classmate without getting caught. This high-tension situation soon leads to murders, and it's up gamers to identify the culprit. If players correctly identify the killer, he or she is executed in a grisly fashion, but if they falsely accuse someone, the real killer walks free and everyone else is executed. Gameplay in DanganRonpa consists of Daily Life, in which gamers explore the school and interact with their fellow students to learn more about them, and Deadly Life, where players examine a crime scene, collect evidence and interview suspects. Once all possible data has been collected the game moves into a Class Trial, during which gamers take on four shooting mini-games to unlock clues and dismiss lies and contradictions.
